alongside big game such as elephant buffalo leopard and lion Coutada 9 was once one of the most famous hunting blocks in Africa under Safrique and Adelino Pires Unfortunatley the area suffered heavily under the turmoil of the Mozambique liberation and civil wars The Rosenfels family have secured a long lease on this area and intend on returning it to its former glory days Already work is underway opening new hunting roads and creating additional watering areas for the game A large portion of the hunting income is ploughed back into local communities and anti poaching efforts These stratagies along with wildlife re introduction have boosted the game populations considerably The result is a large diversity of plainsgame being available including sought after species such as sable Lichtenstein s hartebeest oribi and red duiker The concession abounds with kudu eland and warthog This gives the hunter an opportunity to pursue plainsgame on a truly wild old african style safari Western Safaris also offer elephant and lion in Coutada 9 Elephant are hunted in the traditional style by tracking on foot The area has an estimated population of 350 animals and trophy size is around 30 to 50 lbs per side
