o it is the one on the very left on the very right is a 44 mag 44 acp special russian far left 44mag far right Let me know what you think or let me know if you have any 44Russian brass just laying around Regards Jaco jacorad Posts 186 Joined Mon Feb 25 2013 10 14 am Top Re 45 ACP converted to 44 by Gunsports Tue Mar 24 2015 8 20 pm Jaco If you nee a shorter 44 case why not just shorten a 44 magnum case to the desired length I would not Shorter cases no matter the load used in them will burn a ring into the cylinder before the cylinder s forcing cone Yes that slight ridge in the cylinder is a form of a forcing cone preventing the bullet from tipping in the cylinder The more free bore in the cylinder the less accuracy you will achieve as the bullet has more chance of mis alignment with the forcing cone About light loads In CAS I think you guys are restricted to black powder equal velocities This means either using black powder scarce or lighter nitro loads in modern guns Try loading your light load then a card wad thin and fill the balance of the case with rough maize meal Try not to compress the load and load the bullet out so it is just shy of the barrel forcing cone If you can chrono the loads to develop a load just shy of the BP equivalent velocity Also try the heaviest bullet for caliber you can get hold of 260gr This will also slow the velocity and give a lower shot to shot velocity spread Another powder to consider is S265 I think this is a more bulkier powder and will fill the case better In the Ruger you can experiment In other makes I would be very careful If it ain t a ball it ain t a bullet Gunsports Posts 1175 Joined Fri Mar 02 2012 10 10 am Location Oudtshoorn RSA Website Top Re 45 ACP converted to 44 by jacorad Wed Mar 25 2015 10 13 am Thanks Glen Regarding the shorter 44mag case When you cut it back by that much you are cutting into the thicker part of the brass and this might cause a slight bulge when the bullet is seated due to the thicker brass wall which may cause chambering issues at least this is what I ve read Yes we are restricted to slower equal to black powder velocities and only soft lead bullets due to possibility of bullets bouncing back and causing injuries since the steel plates are only about 5m 10m away Off course using a reduced load also helps with less recoil which does increase your rate of fire as well I will try the card wad rough maize meal method first and will look into somchem s s265 would the weight of maize meal not be an issue
