a cylinder with a recharging nipple on the end of the cylinder is available at a cost The 4 power scope did not work at all The 5mm wide bullseye was completely covered by the crosshair of the scope A suitable scope was required to be competative Long story but I would suggest you do serious stocktaking on what you want to do and then join a club where you can learn from other peoples mistakes Shoes Posts 70 Joined Thu Mar 22 2012 9 26 am Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Leibrandt Fri May 03 2013 1 35 pm Hi Guys Thanks for the imput I will have to do some serios homework Leibrandt Leibrandt Posts 20 Joined Mon May 07 2012 3 30 pm Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Spitfire Fri May 03 2013 3 51 pm Yeah it s better to buy a gun with your head rather than buying with your heart Spitfire Posts 2004 Joined Fri Mar 02 2012 10 25 pm Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Gunsports Mon Jul 01 2013 8 21 pm Spitfire wrote Yeah it s better to buy a gun with your head rather than buying with your heart Sheet then we ll all go out of business If it ain t a ball it ain t a bullet Gunsports Posts 1175 Joined Fri Mar 02 2012 10 10 am Location Oudtshoorn RSA Website Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Spitfire Mon Jul 01 2013 8 50 pm Nie heeltemal nie my hart is ook ma te swak om nee te seg so koop koop ons Spitfire Posts 2004 Joined Fri Mar 02 2012 10 25 pm Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Gunsports Wed Oct 01 2014 6 43 pm A mate of mine has been natteing about the Chinese Bam B50 51 PCP air rifles for some time now trying to convince me into buying one Now at best of times I have little faith in Chinese arms especially air powered arms as the examples of springers I ve seen normally brought in for repair leaves little confidence Basically these things are crap Yesterday another client comes in with one of these BAM 51 s Literally bought it hours before at a gun shop in the Cape and had paid less than R2 5k for it Damn this thing looks good Build quality is superb the wood is very good and the thing is very well put together Had a peek down the barrel and this rifle s barrel is seriously good Now I know that there is a huge following of these guns in the US so much so that the guys there have developed tuning kits for these guns claimed to improve the already excellent performance of these guns Some claim that these guns tuned are capable of 1 2 inch groups at 100m Then last night I went and had a bit of read on the internet Now either a whole lot

a PCP with a huge reputation My primary aim for this gun is for hunting small game and this gun will form part of my survival battery more on this later on I have no interest in FT competitions but will require a very accurate gun something I am technically capable of for taking game up to rabbit goose duck size out to about 50m From what I ve read the 4 5mm with the heavier pellets are capable of this giving a flatter trajectory and enough energy momentum penetration for clean kills out to these distances Having spent some time researching air gun hunting it seems that there are major advances in the technology of late Air rifles of up to and including 458 are now being produced and these are used for shooting game up to buffalo Bison Popular in the US is a 357 caliber rifle that is used for antelope hunting out to 100m and beyond Their 25 s are used for smaller game deer and hogs Seems an old technology is gaining some serious attention If it ain t a ball it ain t a bullet Gunsports Posts 1175 Joined Fri Mar 02 2012 10 10 am Location Oudtshoorn RSA Website Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Donovan Mon Oct 13 2014 8 44 pm I have just bought a Airforce Talon SS I have been looking for one for a long time Cal 5 5 Donovan Posts 133 Joined Tue Jul 03 2012 11 44 pm Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Gunsports Tue Oct 14 2014 9 39 am That s a seriously good looking rifle you got there How do you fill Pump of dive bottle One of the planned to do s for the BAM is a 22 conversion This will entail a barrel breech and the parts that go with it All are available from tuners on the net or I can make it myself save off course for the barrel If it ain t a ball it ain t a bullet Gunsports Posts 1175 Joined Fri Mar 02 2012 10 10 am Location Oudtshoorn RSA Website Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Donovan Tue Oct 14 2014 6 49 pm Hi Guny I fill with a diving cylinder I have a 200 bar 15 liter cilynder I am looking for a big capacity 300 bar carbon tank I understand that Gary Barnes at JJ wapens makes very good airgun barrels If you go on the airgun forum you will see that there are always barrels available The rest is pis to make On the Bam you have to change all the O rings for good quality one s The china brand is not that good Donovan Posts 133 Joined Tue Jul 03 2012 11 44 pm Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Gunsports Tue Oct 14 2014 7 37 pm Thanks for the barrel info The courier picked the gun up today and it should be here tomorrow My

area is in order I cannot see an affect on accuracy but still The internals will be polished and the air port modified As it comes from the factory the air port is 3 5mm giving in excess of 1000 fps This is too high Other tuners have reduced this port some to regulate the speed to 850 900 fps which seems ideal for the 10 34 gr pellet Plus you get more shots per air load and a longer sweet spot Also the door latch type cocking handle will have to go Here I can see a nice bolt handle style cocker just because I can And of course I am already looking for a 22 barrel This gun lends itself to an interchangeable barrel setup If it ain t a ball it ain t a bullet Gunsports Posts 1175 Joined Fri Mar 02 2012 10 10 am Location Oudtshoorn RSA Website Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Donovan Sun Oct 26 2014 9 07 pm Hi Gunny how is the Bam doing Have you found a 5 5 barrel yet Donovan Posts 133 Joined Tue Jul 03 2012 11 44 pm Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Gunsports Mon Oct 27 2014 8 30 am Nope still looking I ve found a few on offer for other makes but the sellers all want to do the conversions for me My plan is to have a complete 22 barrel and breech assembly so these can be swapped out without too much of a hassle Been a crazy week and weekend Normally this time of the year things slow down a little and one can catch up on the work that is behind Not this year Getting lots of new restoration customers and lots of guns to work on Even my other passion bikes are getting neglected And to add insult to injury I ve discovered a customer with sticky fingers Been lifting tools and the odd bundle of cash from the till This is the curse of being a one man show your eyes cannot be everywhere So this weekend had to install security cameras in the shop a hugely expensive job which is really not needed AS MENSE NET HULLE BLEDDIE POTE TUIS HOU But the BAM was not entirely neglected When I became interested in this gun Christo gave me a manual he downloaded from the internet with all the BAM tunes needed to make the little gun sing Most center around removing the rough machining the Chinese are famous for and some tuning to the hammer hammer spring etc Because these guns are so popular there is a huge amount of info available One problem area is a rough breech and air port machined into the barrel On my gun this needed attention as it was chowing the little bolt O ring that seals the breech In fact the O ring on this rifle had already been chewed up in the few shots I fired with it resulting in a little puff of air back in your face when you shoot Not much but a leak nevertheless So the breech was polished and the air port de burred Found some of the special O rings and now the little gun shoots lekker Also did a little tuning to the bush that sits in the air port From the factory the passage is 3 4 mm which is much too high and and wastes air I made a few from brass rod in sizes 3 mm 2 5 mm and 2 0 mm The guys using these guns for field sports fit a 1 6 mm bush and then the power comes down to about 9 ft lbs and you get a long sweet spot shot string I fitted the 3 0 mm bush in my gun and she seems to like this a lot Now shoots through a piece of 21 mm marine ply so enough power still for pigeon I still have to get to the range to fully test the gun but am too busy right now Also replaced the 4 x Leupold with an old Japanese Tasco 3 9 x 42 The Tasco focuses closer and should be better for the distances I will be using the gun Still need to shim the back base to change the parallax from 100 m down to about 35 m Mate of mine is arranging our first hunt with the BAM rifles Cannot wait For the rest Province showed again that they are the masters and our little town tried very hard to drink it dry the weekend They nearly succeeded if judged by all the japies with their piepie joller motors turning the town s streets into a racing circuit A mate of mine junked his Suz cruizer too much speed too little oil and cannot afford to repair So he parted the bike out and I scored the windscreen the spots and the leather tool bag that goes under the head light You know that cosmetic s bag the Harley riders put their lipstick and moisturizer in Leather was a little cracked and dry and dirty but a few sessions with my famous bullet patch lube and the bag is like new More farkies for the Virago Spoke to one of the members down PE way Their club is still very active and they shoot twice a month with still between 10 20 regular members attending Also they are quite fixed for powder and buy this at R750 00 for half a kilo Wano So powder is still available and despite all the doom and gloom guys are still making smoke If it ain t a ball it ain t a bullet Gunsports Posts 1175 Joined Fri Mar 02 2012 10 10 am Location Oudtshoorn RSA Website Top Re PCP Air Rifle by Gunsports Sat Feb 20 2016 1 17 pm Wow cannot believe that just on a year and a half have passed
